Kaleidoscopic Space

Kaleidoscopic Space was conceptualised to be an oasis of calm in providing respite from bustling city and enabling a productive work environment. A sense of journey and discovery as one navigates through the space guides the design. The previously drab conventional office space has been transformed with the bold use of colour, patterns and texture that come together cohesively to mark movement and transitions, and define spaces. The waiting lounge’s vibrant blue walls are set off by the warm tones of reclaimed wood and leather furniture. Curated art, artefacts and plants with foliage in jewel tones of green add warmth and interest compensating for the lack of natural light. The reception and service area are located on one side of this space. The other side has work cabins that are flooded with natural light and views of city. The blue walls continue into the corridor connecting to the spaces beyond. The dining space also has blue walls that set-off a bold red and floral artwork and chairs. The corridor expands into a conference room separated by a glass paned partition. It picks up on the blue from the waiting lounge as well as introducing a shade of green into the mix with the patterned flooring of the corridor continuing into the space. The opposite side of the corridor accommodates two large personal offices personlised to suit each of their users. Neutral walls offset warm tones of the wooden furniture, and flooring. The spaces have a floral theme and warmth is brought through the use of art, artefacts, plants and lighting. While one of the spaces uses yellow accents as a foil to the more neutral shades, the other workspace is breaks the palette with more neutron and dark earthy tones.

This exposed concrete residence for a family of four has been designed keeping in mind their love of nature and open spaces. A clever play of open areas, built spaces and voids helps respond to the local climate which is typically hot for a major part of the year. An elevated garden and a rooftop courtyard connect indoors with the outdoor spaces. The openings are oriented to pull in more light from the north and east facades and to significantly reduce heat gain from the south and west while bringing in plenty of natural light and ventilation into every room. The studio was awarded the ‘Top 10 Homes’ and ‘Top 10 Kitchens and Bathrooms’ at India Design 2019 by Elle Décor for this project.

The approach to this building offers a contrast to the busy city life outside with landscape on both sides offering only a peek of the building’s corner. The ground floor, with restricted vehicular movement is where all the common amenities like a concierge, gym, swimming pool, and lounge are located. The apartment units are carefully oriented to face either south-east or north-west, extending the living space towards the gardens areas with personal green planters at every floor. Each floor has two units that open onto three sides. Apartments are accessed through a personal foyer for privacy. The apartment layouts are designed with minimal internal circulation spaces to maximize usable areas, with a great room located centrally from which all the rooms are accessed.

Skyline Office

A corporate office for a city-based construction company, the Skyline Office Building is a 4,000 sq. ft. space that was given a conspicuous, unconventional form to a conventional building aesthetics. The striking red origami form in steel seems to levitate over a garden area on slender steel girders that give the building an industrial aesthetic. The bold form acts as a signpost drawing attention when seen from the highway. The faceted planes are carried forward in the landscaped areas tying them with the floating mass above. The language is carried through into the interior spaces giving it a dynamism that extends outwards to the horizon through the panoramic glass walls on three sides. The sweeping views of the highway and surroundings from within give one the sense of watching a silent movie cocooned in an avant-garde sculpture.

The low rise, high density apartment community aims to achieve the best of both, combining urban (location/ connectivity/access to public services) with rural (close connection to green spaces/creating a comfortable micro climate/privacy) aspirations. The north facing garden encroaches into the underbelly of the building increasing green cover and creating a comfortable, shaded, extended community space. The apartment units are carefully oriented to face either east or north, extending the living space towards public gardens with personal green planters. The dual layered façade with double glazed windows further reduce the heat gain and noise pollution.

The intent was to design a house that defined simplicity through clear straight lines articulated with volumes and planes of white and black. The house opens towards the north through a verandah overlooking a large lawn. The planning follows Vastu principles and a central court forms the core of the house with a double heighted informal living space. A cantilevered staircase anchored on an exposed concrete wall connects to the upper levels. Environmentally conscious measures have been implemented in the house including rain-water harvesting, and solar panels for meeting energy needs.

Yellow Box Office

The Yellow Office Box Building was conceived as a distinctive branding tool to call attention to the project by way of its portable design and installation. The building is temporary in nature and can be dismantled and reused. The design challenges the conventional pattern of building low-budget, aesthetically poor, temporary site offices in India which are invariably demolished after they have served their purpose. This mobile building, envisioned as a ‘Shouting Media Box’, has two primary boxes that house the programmatic spaces and a pitched yellow box as a staircase unit connecting with the upper level. The first primary box sits on the ground and is dedicated to the administrative functions. The second box, called the light box, levitates above to hold the executive functions.

A high-end residential development located in a suburb of Ahmedabad, the project has 6 towers of 3 and 4 bedroom units separated by three gardens. The development offers a wide range of amenities including indoor play areas, a swimming pool, clubhouse, and lawns, on the ground floor with additional amenities on the terrace gardens above the buildings. The green balconies of the units either face the road or the internal gardens optimizing light and ventilation.

Sky Sol is an imposing landmark perched at one of the busy junctions of the locality. It serves as a mixed-use residential cum commercial citadel categorically divided in two distinct towers that house 2 BHK and 3 BHK apartments. The building comprises 150 residential units and 42 retail shops spread across the towers. Despite this diversity in the typology of the commercial spaces and dwelling units, the building has a minimal form and sophisticated simplicity. The residential tower entrance leads one’s way through the garden, the club house, kids play area and other amenities. The garden is designed to provide relief at the corner of the road while providing larger visual experience of the towers.
